Product Description for Spot UV Flyers & Leaflets | Raised Gloss Detail

Spot UV flyers and leaflets add a selective glossy varnish over chosen areas of the printed design. The contrast between the base surface and the reflective UV detail is useful for logos, patterns, short headings and graphic elements that benefit from a tactile visual accent.

The effect is produced from a separate Spot UV mask, so the gloss should be treated as a finishing layer rather than simulated in the CMYK artwork. Keep very fine details practical and allow for normal registration tolerances between print and varnish.

Spot UV works best when the effect supports the underlying design rather than competing with it. Avoid running the varnish across folds or too close to the trimmed edge.

Supply print-ready artwork as a high-resolution PDF at 300dpi in CMYK (FOGRA39 where a profile is required). Embed all fonts or convert text to outlines/curves. Add 3mm bleed on every trimmed edge and extend backgrounds and images fully into the bleed. Keep important text, logos, QR codes and other critical content at least 3mm inside the finished trim. Crop marks are not required when the PDF is supplied at the correct trim size with bleed.

For Spot UV, supply conventional CMYK print pages followed by separate effect-mask pages as required by the product template. Build the mask as solid black vector artwork, keep all effect areas completely inside the 3mm safe area, and do not run Spot UV across folds or perforations because the finish can crack or flake. Keep the CMYK artwork and mask geometry aligned exactly.

Technical Specifications – Spot UV Flyers & Leaflets

Material and finish: Full-colour CMYK print with a separate selective Spot UV varnish layer. Keep the varnish mask inside the safe area and away from folds/perforations.

Artwork: 300dpi CMYK PDF, fonts embedded or outlined, 3mm bleed on every trimmed edge and at least 3mm internal safe area.

Printing: Full-colour commercial print; single- or double-sided configurations vary by selected option.

Colour behaviour: Coated stocks give greater surface contrast; uncoated stocks absorb more ink and can appear softer. Specialist effects such as foil or Spot UV are physical finishing layers and require dedicated mask artwork.
