Technical specifications – hardback book printing

Construction: Case-bound book with a rigid paper-over-board cover. The case uses approximately 2400-micron greyboard. Inner pages are gathered and PUR glued, then attached to the case with blank white endpapers and fly sheets; current specifications use 170gsm uncoated endpapers/fly sheets.

Sizes and extent: Available from A5 to A4, including selected square/orientation options. Page counts run from approximately 40 to 400 pages in increments appropriate to the binding; inner page totals should be divisible by four. Minimum practical spine width is approximately 9mm and is calculated from page count and paper stock.

Inner papers: Current options include uncoated, gloss and silk papers across multiple weights. Cover lamination is available in matt or gloss.

Artwork files: Supply two PDFs: (1) the outside cover as one spread including back cover, spine, hinges and wrap-around; (2) inner pages as single pages in running order. Use the exact cover template and calculated spine width.

Artwork standard: CMYK PDF, preferably PDF/X-1a, 300dpi, fonts outlined or embedded, 3mm bleed and approximately 10mm safe area. The cover template contains additional wrap and hinge allowances that must not be guessed.

Production note: Blank endpapers and fly sheets are inserted in production and should not be included as printed content unless the product specifically offers printed endpapers.
